WBB Preview: Storm visit Coe for weekday contest

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson women's basketball team looks to keep rolling after winning its own holiday tournament last weekend as the Storm travel to Coe on Wednesday for its second American Rivers Conference game of the year. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Simpson (4-1, 1-0 A-R-C) won 84-70 over Calvin on Saturday to go 2-0 at the Simpson Thanksgiving Classic. The Storm already have one American Rivers Conference win on their resume, while this will be the Kohawks (4-2, 0-0 A-R-C) first league contest.

The game will be video streamed live on Kohawkathletics.com. Fans can also access the video stream via the American Rivers application on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV.

COE SERIES NOTES
Simpson and Coe meet for the 60th time in a series that dates back to the 1977-78 season ... the Storm own a 46-13 lead in the all-time series and have won three in a row ... the games have been tight as of late as two of the last three meetings have gone into overtime, while all three of those matchups have been decided by five points or fewer ... since losing four in a row to Coe from 2013-15, Simpson has only lost three times to the Kohawks since then.

ABOUT THE KOHAWKS
Coe and third-year head coach Kayla Waskow come into the contest with a 4-2 record ... the Kohawks are coming off a 62-50 win over No. 15 Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday as they have won two games in a row ... the Pioneers were undefeated before the game and is now the second ranked opponent Coe has beaten over the last two seasons ... the defense has been the backbone to the team's success this year and leads the conference in scoring allowed at 54.2, nearly eight points better than the second-place squad in the conference ... the offense is seventh in scoring at 60.8 with Madeline Wilkins (10.2) and Jackie Feldt (10.0) leading the team.

LAST TIME OUT
Simpson comes into the conference battle after winning its own tournament on Saturday ... the Storm went 2-0 in the Simpson Thanksgiving Classic with wins over Concordia-Moorhead and Calvin ... in the final game against Calvin, Simpson used a 15-3 run to start the game and never looked back to win ... Claire Johnson was tabbed as the tournament MVP and Cassie Nash was placed on the All-Tournament team for her efforts over the two days.

STORM NOTES
• The Storm are currently first in the league in shooting percentage (51.3), 3-point percentage (45.7), assists per game (19.2), assist to turnover ratio (1.13), second in scoring (86.6 ppg) and third in steals per game (13.4).
• The team's defense has been swarming to the ball as of late, thanks to its high-tempo press attack. Simpson has had double-digit steals in its last three games, highlighted by 20 against Dubuque.
• Through the first five games of the season, the Storm have connected on 59 3-pointers, which is eight more than the team had at this point a year ago. The offense has used 10 different players to score from behind the arc.
• Head coach Brian Niemuth is three wins shy of hitting the 600 mark for career victories. Niemuth is currently ninth in the NCAA Division III for career wins among active women's basketball coaches.
