Kincaid powers offense to 72-59 win over Central

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson women's basketball team notched its 37th-straight win over Central on Saturday and improved its overall winning streak to seven straight this season after a 72-59 victory at home.

The Storm (11-3, 3-2 A-R-C) had four out of their five starters notch double figures as Cameron Kincaid led the team with 17 points. Claire Johnson scored 15 points and had a career-high nine steals, Cassie Nash tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Kia Rasmussen had 10.

In addition to the starters, Jenna Taylor also racked up double digits in scoring. Taylor appeared in her first home game this season and put up 10 points and two rebounds in just 15 minutes on the court.

The Dutch (8-6, 0-5 A-R-C) shot the ball well at 45.1%, but maintained a lead for only seven minutes of the entire game. Central started off hot with a 5-0 run, but Simpson answered with seven straight to grab the momentum.

The lead would change twice before Kincaids's mid-range jumper, with five minutes to go in the second quarter, pushed the Storm past their rival for the final time.

A 23-13 second quarter allowed Simpson to extend its lead to double digits, keeping the Dutch at a comfortable distance the remainder of the game.

Simpson won the battle of the boards against the Dutch, 40-38, allowing the Storm to score nine second chance points, compared to their opponent's four. Central struggled handling the ball and racked up 32 turnovers, which led to 25 of the Storm's 72 points.

Head coach Brian Niemuth was presented with a plaque and gameball by athletic director, Bob Nutgrass, to honor Niemuth for reaching 600 career wins after today's contest..

• Simpson's 37.7% shooting clip was the lowest the team had recorded all season.
• Second time this year the Storm have tallied 20 steals since Wisconsin Eau-Claire game on Nov. 15.
• From behind the arc, the team's 26.3% performance was their lowest since hitting 17.4% on Dec. 4 at Coe.
