EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- The Simpson women's basketball team opened the 2019-20 season in style with an 84-63 triumph over Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the Tip-Off Tournament on Friday.

The Storm (1-0) shot 50% from the floor and 46.4% from behind the arc in the win and forced the Blugolds (1-2) to shoot 39% as a team. Of the 14 players that saw action tonight for Simpson, 10 scored a point, while seven had five-or-more points.

As the game sat at 8-8 near the halfway mark of the first quarter, Simpson rattled off an 11-2 run to give some breathing room with triples by Kia Rasmussen and Cameron Kincaid. The Storm would close the opening frame with a nine-point advantage at 27-18.

Cassie Chubb scored three of her 20 points to open a 7-3 run for Simpson to place the contest at 34-21 in the second period. Wis.-Eau Claire would chip away at the deficit with a spree of its own to make it 37-31, but would not get any closer as the half ended at 44-35 in favor of the Storm.

As the third period began, Simpson would drain three triples to claim a 14-5 run to increase the advantage to 18 points at 58-40. Neither team would score for almost three minutes before Allyson Simpson hit a pair of free throws to give the Storm a 60-40 lead. Simpson would close the door on the game in the fourth quarter by going 4 of 6 from long range and outscoring the Blugolds 20-14.
