Storm men ranked 23rd nationally

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson men's track and field team is ranked 23rd in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III National Championship Rankings, as announced by the USTFCCCA on Tuesday.

The Storm have 43.41 points in the rankings, moving up two spots after debuting at No. 25 last week. Simpson is the second-ranked Iowa Conference school on the list, behind Dubuque (21). The Storm are ranked seventh in the Central Region.

The move up the standings was due in large part to Dylan Kalinay's jump nationally in the both the 100-meter dash and the 100-meter hurdles last week. The Storm's 4x100-meter relay team of Kalinay, Troy Vittetoe, Chase Wetterling and Travis Tupper also made a big jump, giving the Storm three events ranked in the top-10 in Division III.

In all, Simpson has seven events ranked in the top-25 in Division III.

The rankings use mathematical formulae based on the current national descending order list to create an index that showcases teams that have the best potential of achieving top spots in a national-title race. The rankings are used as a predictor of how teams will perform at the NCAA Championships based on the current descending order list.

The Storm host a triangular with Central and Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, April 21. Field events begin at Noon with running events getting underway at 1 p.m.
