Kalinay, Coughenour capture titles to lead Storm at IIAC Championship

PELLA, Iowa -- Dylan Kalinay won the 110 hurdles and the 100-meter dash and Jordan Coughenour won a third-straight title in the 400-meter hurdles to lead Simpson on the final day of the 2018 Iowa Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Kalinay also helped the 4x100-meter relay to a runner-up finish as the Storm placed sixth in the team standings with 91 points.

The senior from Toledo, Iowa won his first conference title in the 110 hurdles. He held out of the final in 2017 due to a nagging injury and was the runner up in 2015 and 2016. He ran 14.40 in the final to cruise to the title, beating Dubuque's Kelshawn Johnson by more than half-a-second.

His title in the 100 didn't come as easily. Kalinay out-leaned Dubuque's Kyle Thomas at the tape to win by just .004 seconds, officially finishing in 10.821. The 100-meter title is also a first for Kalinay, who took second as a freshman in 2015 but finished outside of the top three in 2016.

Coughenour continued his dominance in the 400-meter hurdles, winning the title for the third-straight year. He led for most of the race but clipped the ninth hurdle and had to hold off Wartburg's Dallas Wright at the finish, running 53.562 to win by just .007 seconds.

The 4x100-meter relay took runner-up honors for the second year in a row, finishing in 41.86 behind Nebraska Wesleyan. Travis Tupper ran the lead leg, followed by Kalinay, Troy Vittetoe and Kirk Wicks.

Josh Dietrich took home all-conference honors for the first time in his career with a third-place finish in the javelin throw. The sophomore vaulted into third on his final throw with a toss of 167-feet, 3-inches, edging Central's Michael Firkins by one inch for third.
