Kalinay, 4x100 post top-five national times at Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A handful of Simpson runners traveled to Iowa's Musco Twilight on Thursday with the goal of turning in some top-flight performances while taking advantage of a rare pleasant forecast.

The group didn't disappoint.

Dylan Kalinay lowered his time in the 110-meter hurdles to move up in the national rankings and the 4x100-meter relay jumped into the top-five nationally to lead the Storm in a field made up primarily of Division I talent.

Meet Highlights
• Kalinay ran 14.53 in the 110 hurdles, the third-fastest time in Division III. A year ago he set the school record by running 14.30 at the same meet.

• Head coach Dave Cleveland shook up the order of the Storm's 4x100 relay, putting Troy Vittetoe in the leadoff spot, moving Kalinay to anchor and keeping Chase Wetterling and Travis Tupper at the second and third spots, respectively. The move paid off as the quartet cut 0.33 seconds off the time it posted at the Loras Midweek on March 28, moving into fourth in the nation. The Storm's other 4x100 relay consisting of Kalinay, Wetterling, Tupper and Kirk Wicks is ranked 10th nationally (42.02).

• The 4x100 relay posted the No. 3 time in school history. The top three times at Simpson have all been set in the last three seasons. Entering the 2016 campaign, the school record stood for 23 years.
