Kailany wins two events to lead Storm at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa — Dylan Kalinay won the 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash to lead the Simpson men's track and field team at the Darren Young Invite on Saturday. The Storm posted seven, top-five performances en route to a fifth-place team finish.

Kalinay brought home Most Valuable Track Athlete of the Meet honors. He won the 60 hurdles for the third-straight meet and ran the 14th-fastest time in the nation in the 60.

Kalinay won hurdles in 8.23.23 in the finals to edge Reese Hennerberg of Nebraska Wesleyan. Sam Adeniyi also placed seventh with a time of 8.69. Kailany also took first in the 60 meters, crossing the finish line in 6.96 seconds, tying Aaron Arment for third all-time in school history.

Jordan Coughenour added a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters, Ian McKenzie finished fifth in the 5,000 meters, and Isaiah Strong took fourth in the high jump. The 4x400 and distance medley relay teams brought home fourth-place finishes as well.

Coughenour ran 50.62 in the 400 to take fifth place, improving upon last week's run of 50.80.

McKenzie crossed the line in 15:23.81 in the 5,000 for a fifth-place finish. The cross country national qualifier was running the event for the first time this season.

Strong cleared a season-best mark of 6 feet, 5.5 inches in the high jump. He set his previous best last week at Wartburg with a clearance of 6-foot, 3 1/4 inches.

The 4x400 team of Travis Tupper, Coughenour, Emmitt Wheatley, and Chase Wetterling finished in 3:24.89. The distance medley relay team of Levi Lefebure, Kellen Fitch, Nick Kibby, and Seth Nostrala also took fourth with a time of 11:19.85.
