Kalinay wins 60 hurdles to lead Storm at UNI
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Dylan Kalinay won the 60-meter hurdles to lead the Simpson men's track and field team at Northern Iowa's Jack Jennett Open on Friday. The Storm had five, top-five finishes in their third meet of the indoor season.
Sam Adeniyi added a fifth-place finish in the 60 hurdles, Travis Tupper took fifth in the 60-meter dash, Tyler Combs and Austin Greenwalt fared well in the 600 meters and the 4x400-meter relay team took third as the Storm placed fifth in the 15-team field.
Kalinay won the 60 hurdles for the first time this season, running 8.34 in the finals to edge Raykwon McClenny of Indian Hills CC. He ran 8.33 in the prelims, the second-fastest qualifying time. His season-best in the event is 8.28, which is currently 11th in Division III.
Adeniyi ran 8.75 in the finals to take fifth. He ran 8.50 in the prelims, just .01 seconds off his career-best.
Tupper ran 7.14 in the 60 to finish fifth, moving up two places from his preliminary qualifying effort.
The duo of Combs and Greenwalt placed second and fourth, respectively, in the 600 meters. Combs finished in 1:25.62 and Greenwalt crossed th finish in 1:27.76.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Tupper, Jordan Coughenour, Tyler Combs and Bryce Exlione finished in 3:26.74 to place third.
