Flames, Bulldogs top Storm at home

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson College women's tennis team hosted its first tri-meet of the spring on Sunday, welcoming the College of Saint Mary's and Truman State to Indianola.

The Storm (4-9) dropped a close 5-4 match to Saint Mary before falling 7-2 against Truman State.

Match One
Anna Wanek and Emily King kicked things off with an 8-3 doubles victory over the duo of Tessa Hurst and Jaclyn Negrete. The Flames (8-3) were victorious by a score of 8-2 at No. 2 doubles and earned what proved to be the deciding match at No. 3 with a 14-12 tiebreaker.

Both Wanek and King came out victorious in their individual matchups with back-to-back sweeps. Donni Kinghorn battled out a three-set victory in her singles matchup to give the Storm a third win, bouncing back to take sets two and three after dropping the first.

Match Two
Wanek and King continued their duo-dominance during the second match of the day with an 8-2 victory over Allison Brown and Akansha Negi. Wanek also stayed perfect on the day with her second two-set sweep in singles play. She won the first set by tiebreaker and closed the door with a 6-2 win in set two.

The rest of the squad had hard-fought battles but ultimately fell short as the Bulldogs (12-4) picked up their second win of the day after defeating Saint Mary's 7-0 earlier in the afternoon.

The Storm are set to host one final home match on April 19 against Iowa Central.
