Simpson tennis competes against Northwestern-St. Paul

URBANDALE, Iowa – The Simpson College men's and women's tennis teams continued their spring schedules on Tuesday with matches against Northwestern-St Paul at Life Time Des Moines.

The Eagles took both matches as the women won 6-3 and the men posted a 9-0 victory.

On the women's side, Anna Wanek and Emily King claimed an 8-0 victory in doubles to give the Storm an early advantage in the match. Donni Kinghorn and Bella Tranquilino battled hard at No. 2 doubles, but were edged 8-6. Anna Schewe and Maddie Hays fell 8-1 in their first time competing together.

"We had great doubles showing across the board today," said head coach Faith Bliss. "Donni and Bella had some great points together, and Emily and Anna showed up right out of the gate. It was great to see them all play so well!"

Along with their doubles win, Wanek and King were victorious in their singles matches. Wanek fought through two tiebreakers to post a three-set win over Belinda Weddle, while King defeated Annie Orvis 6-2, 6-2.

The Storm men dropped all three of their doubles matches as the Eagles won 8-2 at No. 1, 8-1 at No. 2, and 8-3 at No. 3. In singles competition, Ethan Humble won six games at the No. 4 slot to lead the team.

The Simpson men's team continues American Rivers Conference action on Saturday at Nebraska Wesleyan. The Storm have one more home match this spring on April 13 at 4 p.m.

The women's squad closes out its home schedule with two matches on Sunday against St. Mary (NE) and Truman. The Storm will then close the regular season with a road match at Webster on April 24.
