Tennis trio named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Three Simpson College tennis seniors were named to the 2021-22 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's and Women's At-Large Teams on Thursday.

Emily King (women's tennis), Peter Walkwitz (men's tennis) and Anna Wanek (women's tennis) were all selected to the team, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance in athletic competition and the classroom.

A senior from Friendswood, Texas, King recently graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts in mathematics and computer science. The six-time all-conference performer and three-time academic all-conference honoree finished her senior campaign with a 13-6 singles record and 15-6 mark in doubles play. In her four years with the Storm, King tallied 49 singles victories and 42 doubles victories with an overall win percentage of .636 in singles and .575 in doubles.

Walkwitz also graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts in mathematics and computer this spring. The Des Moines, Iowa native led the men's team in both singles and doubles victories this season, collecting eight wins in individual play and four wins with teammate Ethan Humble. Walkwitz is a three-time academic all-conference recipient and a member of several clubs and organizations including Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society.

Originally from Urbandale, Iowa, Wanek graduated magna cum laude with a degree in health and exercise science. In her first year with the Storm, she went a perfect 19-0 in singles play, 13-5 in doubles competition, and was named American Rivers Conference MVP and A-R-C Tournament A-Singles Champion. Wanek's success on the court continued during her senior campaign as she went 15-4 in singles and 14-6 in doubles, ending her career with an astonishing .895 win percentage in individual competition and .711 in doubles. She also played an important reserve role for Simpson women's basketball over the last two seasons, earning second team all-conference honors as a senior.

All three honorees will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team selection process. First-, second- and third-teams will be announced in mid-June.
