Simpson blanks Buena Vista in home victory

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College women's tennis squad won every set en route to a 9-0 victory over Buena Vista in its home opener on Friday.

The Storm (1-1, 1-1 A-R-C) have now won eight straight matches against the Beavers (0-4, 0-1 A-R-C) dating back to 2014.

Simpson started the contest with a quick 3-0 advantage after a sweep in doubles play. The Storm only lost three games in doubles action, while the No. 3 duo of Megan Grubb and Donni Kinghorn held their opponents scoreless.

In singles play, Anna Wanek cruised to a victory at No. 1 singles by sweeping Nicole Lange. The win handed Simpson its fourth point for the team victory. In total, the Storm swept three of the six singles matches, including clean sheets from Emily King and Kennedi Wright to go along with Wanek's performance.

Bella Tranquilino had a tough battle in the No. 4 slot. After winning the opening set, 6-0, the freshman earned a 7-6 victory in set two by taking the tiebreaker, 8-6. Grubb and Kinghorn were tough in their matches by losing just one game.
