Storm defeat Knights, come up short against Norse
INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College women's tennis team hosted Wartburg and Luther on Friday and Saturday for their final two American Rivers Conference contests of the fall season.
The Storm (4-5, 4-4 A-R-C) started the weekend off with a 6-3 victory over Wartburg (7-8, 4-3 A-R-C) on Friday and finished with a 7-2 setback against league-leading Luther (9-3, 7-0 A-R-C) on Saturday morning.
On Friday, the duo of Anna Wanek and Emily King started doubles play off with an 8-2 victory over Wartburg's Meadow LaDuke and Natalie Kaiser. King would go on to give Simpson its first win in singles competition in the No. 2 slot, while Donni Kinghorn and Kennedi Wright each won tiebreakers in their bouts to round out the Storm's victories.
Against the undefeated Norse, Simpson picked up its two wins in doubles play. Wanek and King defeated Shelby Cook and Natalia Smith in an 8-5 battle, and Megan Grubb and Bella Tranquilino took down M. Ramirez-Mainou and Emily Rubbelke in the No. 3 slot.
