Storm compete in ITA Midwest Regionals

WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The Simpson College women's tennis squad competed in the ITA Midwest Regional in Whitewater, Wisconsin this weekend.

Senior Anna Wanek came into the event ranked No. 17 among singles players. Wanek began with a bye to reach the second round to take on St. Scholastica's Julia Maier. The Urbandale, Iowa native won 6-2, 6-4 to stay alive. In the third round, Wanek fell 7-5, 6-3 to UW-La Crosse's Natasha Bailey to just miss reaching the round of 16.

Senior Emily King tallied a win in singles play to move into the second round. After winning 6-2, 6-0, King was on the other side of the same scores in the second round to drop 6-2, 6-0 sets to UW-Eau Claire's Clare Palen.

The duo of King and Wanek earned an opening-round win in doubles action. The pair won 8-7 after earning a 7-3 triumph in a tiebreaker. King and Wanek dropped an 8-2 bout to Simona Potockova and Yuki Oda from Gustavus Adolphus.

Freshman Bella Tranquilino competed in the Midwest Open Singles-G bracket and began the weekend with a victory in the first round of 6-1, 6-3. She dropped her second round match to end her individual competition. She worked with Kennedi Wright in doubles action to secure a first-round victory, but the pair ended their day in the next round.

Tranquilino and King paired together in the consolation bracket in doubles action to secure an 8-5 victory before falling in the next match.
