Simpson falls in A-R-C match at Central

PELLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 match to Central after the Dutch swept doubles play on Saturday.

In the American Rivers Conference match, Central (5-5, 3-0 A-R-C) won the first two doubles bouts, 8-1. The tandem of seniors Anna Wanek and Emily King fought hard in the No. 1 slot, but came up short in an 8-6 battle.

Simpson (2-2, 2-2 A-R-C) earned its first win of the afternoon as King won her No. 2 singles match, 6-4, 6-2. Wanek was the next triumph for the Storm in the top slot with set scores of 6-3, 6-3.

Senior Megan Grubb collected a win at No. 3 singles and freshman Bella Tranquilino was victorious at No. 6 singles.

Simpson returns home for a nonconference match against Truman on Sunday. The contest will start at 2 p.m. inside the Buxton Tennis Complex.
