Tupper, Track and Field teams earn USTFCCAA All-Academic recognition

NEW ORLEANS -- The Simpson men's and women's track and field teams were selected to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams, with Travis Tupper earning All-Academic Individual honors, the USTFCCCA announced Monday.

The Storm women compiled a team GPA of 3.44, while the men garnered a mark of 3.29 during the 2018-19 season. There were 297 combined teams that received this distinction, with 184 women's programs compared to 113 men's.

2019 USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Track & Field Academic Team Awards

Travis Tupper was the lone student-athlete from either team to be selected as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual for Simpson. To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

  • Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
  • Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.

Tupper maintained a 3.426 cumulative GPA while in a Storm uniform. The Silver City, Iowa native was ranked in the top-35 in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:16.66 at the Augustana Midwest Twilight meet on May 16.

In total, there were 462 men honored on the USTFCCCA All-Academic list for the 2018-19 track and field seasons.
