Storm showcase depth at Dubuque Invite
DUBUQUE, Iowa -- A mix of events showcased the Simpson men's track and field team's depth on Friday at the Dubuque Invitational by claiming near the top results across the board.
The Storm had six top-five finishes coming in the form of short and middle distance, hurdles, relays, throwing and jumping events.
Travis Tupper garnered two second-place marks, one was an individual performance in the 200 meters. Tupper crossed in 23.02 seconds. Tupper competed in the 4x400-meter relay with Jordan Coughenour, Emmitt Wheatley and Kirk Wicks to take home second. The 4x200-meter relay earned second as well as the quartet of Craig Garrison, Troy Vittetoe, Kellen Fitch and Carter Fricke finished in 1:31.57.
Elliott Meyer and Austin Greenwalt finished fifth and sixth, respectively in the 55-meter hurdles. Tyler Combs finished the 800 meters in fifth place to lead Simpson and Kirk Wicks tallied ninth.
Caleb Striegel had the best throwing performance of the day for Simpson. Striegel had a toss of 15.11 meters in the shot put to land him in third and was also a new career-best.
Carter Berkey soared 6.32 meters for fourth place in the long jump and Greenwalt came in close at fifth with a leap of 6.30 meters.
The Storm take aim at the American Rivers Conference Championships next Friday, Feb. 22. The Championships will be held in Waverly, Iowa at Wartburg.
