Storm have strong showing in Kip Janvrin Open

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson men's track and field team garnered five top-five placings in the 14th-annual Kip Janvrin Open on Thursday through Friday on its own campus.

Josh Dietrich rose to third place in the javelin with a toss of 49.14 meters, just clipping his teammate, Connor Warrick, who came in fourth at 47.07 meters. Still in the throwing events, Caleb Striegel launched the shot put 15.29 meters for fourth in a 21-person field.

Jordan Coughenour showed his speed in the 400-meter hurdles to land fourth with a time of 54.85. Austin Greenwalt came in sixth in the event with a 56.43 mark.

The 4x100-meter relay clocked a time of 43.74 for fourth. The quartet of Carter Fricke, Tyler Dredge, Terrhyn Jacoby and Carter Berkey teamed together for the result.

Tyler Combs ran a season-best of 4:04.22 in the 1500 meters for 10th place. Carter Berkey had a season-best leap in the long jump at 6.43 meters to land in 10th.

Inside the Kip Janvrin Open, two records fell on the men's side. Kris Brown of Iowa Central Community College broke the 100-meter dash record with a time of 10.51 seconds. Jared Schatz clocked a time of 9:06.63 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to break the 2014 record.

Trey Thompson competed at the Drake Relays in the 10,000-meter race and earned 18th.

The Storm honored its 2019 seniors during the meet, Chad Carter, Logan Egeland, Drew Roen, Travis Tupper, Troy Vittetoe, Chase Wetterling, Kirk Wicks, Coughenour, Dietrich, Thompson and Warrick.

Simpson will compete in the Loras Twilight meet on May 3 in Dubuque, Iowa. The event will begin at 3:30 p.m.
