Combs, 4x400 paces Storm at Dr. Tucker Open

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Tyler Combs and the 4x400-meter relay squad garnered the top finishes for the Simpson men's track and field at the Dr. Tucker Open on Friday, hosted by Loras College.

Combs raced to a second-place mark in the 800 meters out of 50 runners. He had a time of 1:56.08, which is the fastest by a Storm runner this season. Josh Paulson finished in third with a time of 1:56.49 in the race.

The quartet of Jordan Coughenour, Travis Tupper, Kellen Fitch and Craig Garrison clocked a time of 3:20.90 for second, just missing first by 75 tenths of a second. The 4x100-meter relay made up of Troy Vittetoe, Tupper, Fitch and Garrison earned third.

Coughenour clipped a time of 54.57 in the 400-meter hurdles for third place for another top-five result. In the 110-meter hurdles, Tyler Williams garnered third. Garrison sprinted to fourth in the 100-meter dash in the finals heat.

Josh Dietrich highlighted the Simpson throwers with a toss of 49.80 meters in the javelin to take home third. Connor Warrick had a fifth-place showing in the javelin to finish near his teammate. Caleb Striegel launched the shot put 14.74 meters for fifth.

The Storm return to action this Thursday for the American Rivers Conference Championships. The three-day event will be hosted by Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
