Simpson finishes third at Grand View Invitational
DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Simpson men's track team opened the outdoor season with a third-place finish at the Grand View Invitational on Saturday, scoring 95 points.
The Storm found success in the open events, headlined by Austin Greenwalt finishing second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.98. The team also had a pair of third-place finishes in Craig Garrison in the 200 and Josh Paulson in the 1500.
Josh Dietrich paced a strong effort for the Storm throwers, winning the javelin throw with a career-best heave of 54.2 meters. He beat his old best by nearly three meters. Caleb Striegel added eight points for the Storm, finishing third in the shot put (14.8 meters) and seventh in the discus.
Simpson only ran one relay on the day, finishing second in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Jordan Coughenour, Craig Garrison, Steve Cruz-Castro, and Chase Wetterling crossed the line in 3:27.24.
The Storm had a pair of runners place in the 400, including Emmitt Wheatley in fourth (51.76) and Chase Wetterling in sixth (51.82).
Ryan Courtney earned fifth in the 1500 with a time of 4:10.84.
Terrhyn Jacoby had the highest individual finish of his career in the 100, placing fifth with a time of 11.46.
Simpson will be in action next at the Central Invitational on April 5-6 in Pella at 2 p.m.
