Storm produce strong results on Friday

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Simpson men's track and field team garnered seven first-place finishes to end in second against Nebraska Wesleyan and Central on Friday in Lincoln, Neb.

The Prairie Wolves tallied the most team points for first and the Dutch came in third.

Josh Dietrich flexed his muscles for the second-straight week in the javelin and earned the top spot. Dietrich had a distance of 50.64m, two feet farther than second place.

Caleb Striegel highlight a Storm field event once more by picking up first in the shot put with a toss of 14.93m. Striegle also ended with a third-place performance in the discus (45.89m) and a fourth-place nod in the hammer throw (43.52m).

Both relay teams shined for Simpson as the 4x100-meter crew of Travis Tupper, Craig Garrison, Troy Vittetoe and Kirk Wicks bolted to a time of 42.32 for first, the fourth-fastest time in the American Rivers Conference this year. The quartet of Chase Wetterling, Tupper, Garrison and Wicks teamed up for first in the 4x400 as well, this time clocking a 3:19.52, the second quickest in conference to date.

In the sprints, Garrison grabbed first in the 100 meters by crossing the finish in 11:05. Troy Vittetoe ran a 22.71 for first in the 200 meters.

Austin Greenwalt performed well in the hurdles and picked up first in the 400-meter event and second in the 110-meter hurdles.

Trey Thompson and Josh Paulson competed in the Kansas Relays on Thursday night. Thompson had a time of 15:18.81 in the 5,000 meters for 12th place. Paulson competed in the 1,500 meters and tallied a time of 4:09.25 for 20th of 35 runners. 

The Storm host the 14th annual Kip Janvrin Open next Thursday, April 25 through Friday, April 26. Hammer, discus and shot put will take place on the first day beginning at 10 a.m., with the other events starting at noon on Friday.
