MBB Preview: Storm travel to Coe for first A-R-C road battle

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- After suffering a tough defeat in the American Rivers Conference opener last Tuesday, the Simpson men's basketball team looks to rebound on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. game at Coe.

The Storm (5-3, 0-1 A-R-C) were handed a 77-68 loss to Dubuque last Tuesday after holding a double-digit lead in the first half. The Kohawks (3-3, 0-0 A-R-C) will get their conference slate started and look to get back on track after two straight losses.

The game will be video streamed live on Kohawkathletics.com. Fans can also access the video stream via the American Rivers application on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV.

COE SERIES NOTES
Since 1911, the two teams have faced each other 92 times and meet for the 93rd time on Wednesday ... the Kohawks have a slight 49-43 tilt in the series, but the Storm have won the last five of six meetings between the two teams ... the season series was split last year as both teams tallied road victories, but Simpson got its revenge in the first round of the American Rivers Conference Tournament with a 90-82 triumph at home over Coe ... the last showdown between the two teams was the highest scoring game in the series since Coe won 108-103 in 1998-99.

ABOUT THE KOHAWKS
Coe and eighth-year head coach Bryan Martin begin American Rivers Conference play after their original opener against Buena Vista was postponed last week due to weather ... the Kohawks sprinted out to a 3-1 record to start the year, but have dropped their last two matchups to even their mark ... the offense is currently seventh in the league in scoring at 82.2, while the defense is fifth by allowing 76.7 points per contest ... three players are averaging over double figures to help pace the team, Austin Roth (15.7), Jacob Robertson (13.0) and Adam McDermott (12.8).

LAST TIME OUT
Simpson started its A-R-C slate last Tuesday with a home game against Dubuque, but could not pull off the win as the Spartans won 77-68 ... the Storm had an early double-digit lead at 24-13 at the halfway point of the first half, but the visitors reeled off a 20-4 run to take a lead at 33-28 ... both teams traded leads throughout the majority of the contest when Simpson found itself with a four-point advantage at 66-62 with four minutes left in the game ... Dubuque would play the spoiler by going on a 10-0 spurt to reclaim the advantage for good ... Adam Reiter and Kyle Wagner both finished with 17 points and Reiter led the team on the glass with 12 boards.

STORM NOTES
Adam Reiter notched his third double-double of the year in the team's loss against Dubuque. Reiter is currently first in the league in rebounding (9.0) and seventh in scoring (18.4).
• Simpson's offense is still first in the league in scoring at 98.8 and second in field goal (53.5) and 3-point percentages (43.4).
• The team's 68 points in last week's loss is the lowest the Storm have scored since putting 61 on the scoreboard against Loras on Jan. 2, 2018.
