Storm explode for 49-point win at home

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson men's basketball team went over the century mark for the second game in a row to begin the season as the Storm won 122-73 against Faith Baptist Bible on Thursday night in the home opener.
For the first time since 1997, Simpson (1-1) has opened up the year with back-to-back 100-point contests. The 1997 squad had five straight to begin the season.
The Storm connected on 53% of their shots from behind the arc in the lopsided victory as Kyle Wagner was 4 of 5 from long range and had a game-high 20 points in 20 minutes of action. As a unit, the team shot 60.5% from the floor as 13 of the 17 players that made an appearance scored, while seven of those scored in double digits. Conor Riordan ended with 16 and Adam Reiter was two rebounds shy of a double-double with 10 points and eight boards.
The Storm had two freshman score in double figures in their first outing in Cowles Fieldhouse as Andrew Curran and Collin Lister both finished with 12 points each off the bench.
Simpson used an 8-3 spurt out of the gate to overtake the Eagles as Jeremiah Chandler started the game with a 3-pointer and Wagner followed up with one of his own. Adam Reiter put an exclamation point on the run with a dunk over a defender.
Conor Riordan nailed a triple to put the game at 40-22 with less than nine minutes to go in the first half to give the team its largest lead up until that point. Parker Lange made a free throw at the 1:39 mark of the half to increase the advantage to 22 points at 58-36.
Coming out of intermission, the Storm used a 15-9 surge to increase the lead and even pushed it to 30 points near the halfway point of the final frame. Simpson would close the door with a 49-point advantage to defeat Faith Baptist Bible for the second straight year in the second meeting in the series.
