Storm show off long range in win over Westminster

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- A 20-0 run in the first half gave the Simpson men's basketball team a comfortable lead as the team cruised to a 99-65 victory over Westminster (Mo.) on the final day of the A-R-C-SLIAC Classic.

A Chris Honz layup started the 20-0 streak at the 10:35 mark of the first half for the Storm (3-1) as the game sat at 20-16, before Honz made the close range shot to move it to 22-16. Simpson would score its next 21 points from long range to put the game at 43-19 with less than six minutes to play in the half.

The Bluejays (0-3) could not slow down Simpson from the 3-point line in the first 20 minutes of play as the team connected on 84.6% of its shots by going 11 of 13. Nick Janssen highlighted the performance by going a perfect 5-for-5 to help the team outscore Westminster 60-28 before halftime.

Simpson cooled off some in the second half, but still made 44.8% of its shots from the floor and drained six 3-pointers. Of those six triples, five were scored by different players.

The Storm emptied their bench and had 16 players see action, with all but three scoring a point in the game.

Janssen could not miss from deep by going 6-for-6 from behind the arc for 18 points. Kyle Wagner added 20 points with seven triples. Conor Riordan, Adam Reiter and Parker Lange all scored in double figures. Simpson finished by shooting 55.9% from the floor and 63% from three.
