Simpson wrestling picks up three dual wins

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Simpson College wrestling team wrapped up the 2021 portion of their schedule with three dominating wins at the Prairie Wolf Duals on Saturday.

The Storm (5-2) outscored their opponents 143-9 on the day as they opened the dual meet with a 59-0 victory over Fontbonne before topping Schreiner 47-3 and Milwaukee School of Engineering 37-6.

The shutout win over the Griffins was the team's first time blanking an opponent since 2015. The Storm's 59 points in the dual were the second-most in program history behind a 60-0 victory against William Penn during the 1994-95 season.

Ten wrestlers finished the day with a perfect record as Simpson compiled a match record of 27-3 with 11 pins, eight forfeits, five decisions, two technical falls, and one major decision.

The trio of Dylan McChesney (125), Joe Weaver (133) and Shane Mathias (184) all tallied multiple pins on their way to 3-0, 2-0, and 3-0 records, respectively. McChesney's first pin of the day came in just 30 seconds, five seconds quicker than his previous career record. Weaver collected both of his pins in the first period, while Mathias' fastest pin was in 2:24.  

Robert Silva (157) also went 3-0 with a pin in his first match, a 15-0 tech fall in his second, and an 8-0 major decision in his third. The junior from Edinburg, Tex. has won six in a row and nine of his last 10 matches with all but one being a bonus-point victory.

Zach Stewart (141) pushed his current win streak to seven with a tech fall and a pin, while Sam McCoy (149), Jakob Slavin (165), and Shyler Langley (174) each pinned one opponent to highlight the day.
