Seniors shine in Simpson’s hard-fought battle with Central

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Dylan McChesney, Jakob Slavin and Shyler Langley all won their Senior Night matches to lead the Simpson College wrestling team in a hard-fought 28-9 battle with Central on Wednesday.

McChesney pushed his win streak to nine with a 6-0 decision over Rheiner Stahlbaum to open the dual. The 125-pounder took a three-point lead after two periods and doubled his advantage in the third with an escape and his second takedown of the match.

After a technical fall at 133 pounds, Stewart and Brock Beck battled it out in a match that wouldn't be decided for 12 minutes. After the score was still knotted at 1-1 through the first two minutes of overtime, both Stewart and Beck collected escapes to put the score at 2-all. Another 1:39 went by before Beck finally earned the 4-2 win with a reversal.

The two teams exchanged a pair of decisions over the course of the next four matches as Central led 14-9 with three weight classes left. After claiming the first takedown of the 165-pound match, Slavin fell behind 5-3 in the early goings of the second. He then generated six-straight points with a takedown and nearfall, but Colby Tool cut the lead to two with a reversal soon after. Slavin added an escape and a third takedown in the final two minutes to secure the 12-7 decision and his second A-R-C win of the season.

Simpson's current wins leader Langley also picked up a decision, winning 8-6 over Cooper Stigsell. He scored the first four points with takedowns and extended his lead to 7-3 in the third. Stigsell battled back into the match with an escape and a takedown, but time expired before he could do anymore damage as Langley collected a riding time point and the two-point win.

Central finished out the dual with a first-period pin at 184, a technical fall at 197, and a 7-0 decision in the heavyweight match.
