Storm wrestlers dominate in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Simpson College wrestling team posted a dominating 42-3 win over Nebraska Wesleyan in American Rivers Conference dual action on Saturday afternoon.

The Storm (7-5, 2-4 A-R-C) now have seven dual wins on the season, tying the team's 2014-15 win total for the most victories in a season since 2005-06 when Simpson went 11-12.

Dylan McChesney (125) and Joe Weaver (133) earned back-to-back pins to give the Storm a quick 12-0 lead. McChesney extended his win streak to 10 with a pin in 3:00 and Joe Weaver tallied his seventh pin of the year in 4:28.

Zach Stewart returned to the win column with a 16-2 major decision at 141 pounds. He took an 8-1 lead after three minutes and scored eight points in the third period for the victory. Sam McCoy won a slim 6-4 decision in the 149 bout and Robert Silva (157) was victorious by a score of 8-6 to put Simpson ahead 22-0.

The Storm scored 20 team points over the last four matches thanks to two pins, a technical fall and a decision. Shyler Langley (174) posted a trio of four-point nearfalls and two takedowns for a 16-0 win, Shane Mathias scored the final four points of the 184 match for an 8-4 victory, and Andrew Wolff (197) and Colton Kinnison (285) each pinned their opponents in the second period to close out the dual.

Up Next
Simpson goes for its third and fourth conference win of the season on Wednesday when the Storm travel west to face Loras and Dubuque.
