
Lutmer surpasses 1,000 points, Simpson beats Buena Vista in regular season finale
INDIANOLA, Iowa – Senior Molly Lutmer became the 21st member of the 1,000-point club and the Simpson College women's basketball team captured an 80-55 win over Buena Vista to close the regular season.
With the win, the Storm (15-10, 11-5 A-R-C) clinched the No. 3 seed in the American Rivers Conference Tournament beginning next Tuesday. Simpson will host a first round game, carrying a four-game win streak into the matchup.
GAME BREAKDOWN
- Buena Vista came out strong and took an early 11-7 lead behind 3-pointers from McKenna Cone and Danika Demers.
- Simpson closed the first period on an 8-2 run for a 15-13 edge.
- The Beavers stayed hot from distance to tie things at 19-19 before Simpson strung together a 17-5 scoring spree for a double-digit advantage, 36-24, going into the locker room.
- Haley Rasmussen scored 12 of her 18 points in the third frame to help push the Storm's lead to 21 points at 59-38.
- Maddax DeVault took over the scoring in the fourth to propel Simpson to its largest lead of 29 points. The junior knocked down three 3-pointers in just over one minute of play, with all three being assisted by Morgan Pietig.

- Molly Lutmer has now reached 20 points in four straight games. She became the 21st member of the 1,000 point club with her 14th point of the night, joining teammate Haley Rasmussen and assistant coach Jenna Taylor.
- Simpson has won 11 straight games over Buena Vista. The Storm lead the all-time series 60-32.
- Simpson has now qualified for the conference tournament 24 times. The tournament began 25 seasons ago in 2000.
