Lutmer garners athlete of the week honors after 37-point outburst
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Fresh off one of the greatest scoring performances in program history, Molly Lutmer has been named the American Rivers Conference Athlete of the Week.
In a pivotal matchup against Luther on Saturday, Lutmer racked up 37 points, the third-highest single game total in Simpson history and most since 1996. She shot an efficient 59.1 percent from the floor, buried five 3-pointers, and was flawless at the charity stripe (6-for-6). Additionally, Lutmer led the Storm in steals (3) and rebounds (8), helping Simpson defeat the Norse 88-83 in overtime, an important A-R-C victory with the league tournament just two weeks away.
Lutmer currently ranks 21st in Division III and second in the conference with 59 made triples. She sits fourth on Simpson's all-time leaderboard with 177 career 3-pointers and needs just 60 more points to become the 21st member of the program's 1,000-point club.
This is Lutmer's second player of the week honor this season, but first time earning the conference's overall female athlete of the week recognition.
Simpson hits the road twice this week to face off against Neb. Wesleyan and Loras. The Storm close out the regular season next Wednesday at home against Buena Vista.
