Rasmussen scores 1,000th point as Storm blow past Loras

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Haley Rasmussen scored her 1,000th career point and the Simpson College women's basketball team rolled past Loras 83-52, picking up a critical win in the A-R-C standings on Saturday.

It didn't take Rasmussen long to pick up the career achievement, as she scored her 1,000th point on the first basket of the game. Rasmussen became the 20th player in program history to achieve the feat.

Rasmussen was one of three Storm (9-8, 5-3 A-R-C) to reach the double-digit scoring mark; Molly Lutmer poured in 22 points and Maddax DeVault added 21. As a team, Simpson connected on 15 3-pointers and shot above 50 percent from both the field and beyond the arc to cruise to the 31-point victory. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Storm quickly put the pressure on Loras, scoring the opening eight points, and never looked back.
• Leading by seven entering the second quarter, the Storm quickly separated themselves by shooting 12-for-14 from the field, and 6-for-7 from deep to outpace Loras 30 to 14.
• Molly Lutmer went 6-for-7 with four 3-pointers in the second quarter, finishing with 16 points in the frame to give Simpson a commanding 46-23 lead at halftime.
• Loras managed to keep pace with the Storm in the third quarter before Simpson dominated the fourth 20 to 11.
• Maddax DeVault scored nine of her 21 points in the fourth quarter, six of which came from the free throw line as Simpson coasted to the 83-52 result.

• Simpson improves to 5-1 inside Cowles Fieldhouse. 
• The Storm are currently fourth in league standings at the conclusion of the first eight games. 
• Molly Lutmer moves into fifth all-time in career 3-pointers with 165. This was her sixth game of the year with at least four triples. 
• Haley Rasmussen becomes the 20th member of Simpson's 1,000-point club and the first since Cassie Nash in 2023.
