Back-to-back double-doubles lead to player of the week honor for Nash
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – After posting back-to-back double-doubles against Coe and Luther, senior Cassie Nash has been named the American Rivers Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
This is her fifth time earning player of the week honors for basketball and first this season. She is also a nine-time honoree for her performances on the soccer pitch.
Nash averaged 24.5 points, 15.5 rebounds and 5.5 steals across the two road games, shooting 64.5 percent from the floor for the week. She recorded her first double-double of the year at Coe with 19 points and 14 rebounds and followed that performance with another double-double of 30 points and a career-high 17 rebounds at Luther. She also had 11 steals, five blocks and five assists throughout the week.
After last week's performances, the Lincoln, Neb. native has five double-doubles, two 30-point outings and 23 games with 20+ points in her career. She needs just four more points to become the fifth Simpson women's basketball player to reach 1,500 career points, and 47 rebounds to become the 10th player to surpass 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.
The Storm (12-9, 7-5 A-R-C) begin a busy three-game week tonight at No. 15/19 Loras. Simpson is set to host Nebraska Wesleyan for a 5:30 p.m. tip on Wednesday before taking on the Duhawks again this Saturday at home.
