Simpson sinks 12 triples in win over Monarchs

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Simpson College women's basketball team sank a season-high 12 3-pointers in a 78-56 victory over Methodist at the Cruzin' Classic.

Simpson (5-5) was 12 of 25 from deep, including 7 of 11 in the second half which saw the Storm lead by as many as 30 points over the Monarchs (6-3). Methodist entered the game on a five-game win streak.

Molly Lutmer (6) and Haley Rasmussen (4) combined for 10 of the 12 triples, while Maddax DeVault set new career highs in scoring (16) and steals (5).

KEY MOMENTS

  • A pair of 13-0 runs set the tone for Simpson in the win. Methodist claimed a 25-22 lead with 5:55 left in the second quarter, but the Storm took the lead for good with their first 13-0 spurt of the game. Lutmer capped the scoring run with back-to-back triples to finish the half with nine points.
  • The Storm led by double-digits for the entirety of the third quarter and stretched their lead to 74-44 with a second 13-0 run midway through the fourth quarter. Lutmer kickstarted the run with her sixth 3-pointer of the game before DeVault scored seven of her 16 points during the stretch. Morgan Pietig added a three as well.
