Nash earns second straight A-R-C weekly honor

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – For the second week in a row, senior Cassie Nash has been honored as the American Rivers Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Nash has received this honor four times throughout her basketball career and five times during her soccer career. Six of the combined nine have come in the 2022-23 athletic year.

The senior guard helped Simpson leap two spots in league standings with a pair of double-digit victories over Buena Vista (98-71) and Dubuque (79-67). She averaged 22.0 points, 6.0 steals and 6.0 assists, shooting an impressive 73.9 percent from the field during the week.

Against the Beavers on Wednesday, Nash recorded a second straight game with at least 25 points and added five assists and five steals. She followed her midweek performance with 19 points against the Spartans, knocking down 6 of 7 field goals and 7 of 9 free throws. She was three assists and three steals shy of logging a triple-double and became the program's all-time leader in career steals in the win.

Nash leads the conference and ranks top-10 nationally in steals per game (3.95) and field goal percentage (58.2). In league games only, the Lincoln, Neb. native ranks top-2 in points per game (16.0), field goal percentage (57.5%), assists per game (4.7), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9), and steals per game (4.0). She is tied for third in blocked shots per game (1.3).

The Storm enter their final week of the regular season with a 13-10 overall record and 8-6 mark in the conference. Simpson heads to Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday and will host Central for Senior Day on Saturday.
