Women’s basketball can’t keep pace with Tigers

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson College women's basketball team fell 80-54 in its midweek, nonconference clash with Iowa Wesleyan.

The Tigers (7-3) went into the locker room with a 32-20 lead, but the Storm (2-4) came charging back in the third and cut the deficit to four points at 39-35 with 5:48 left in the quarter. Elise Boulton started the half with her second triple of the night and Haley Rasmussen added eight points to fuel the 15-7 run that brought Simpson within a pair of baskets. After a timeout from the visitors bench, the Tigers scored 13 straight to pull away from the Storm for good.

Simpson started the game by converting three of its first five 3-point attempts, but struggled behind the arc the rest of the game, making just five of 28 tries. Iowa Wesleyan knocked down eight of 19 attempts from distance and also outscored the Storm 38-12 in the paint.

Anna Wanek and Rasmussen each connected on three triples and led the Storm with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Khloe Wyatt chipped in 10 points off the bench and brought down a team-high seven rebounds. Morgan Pietig dished out three assists and had five rebounds.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Kyla Moore with 22 points fueled by 10 of 14 shooting at the line. Isabell West scored 14 points and helped Iowa Wesleyan to a 47-30 rebounding advantage with 21 boards.
