Storm edged by Golden Gusties

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Simpson College women's basketball team battled back from a double-digit deficit and took the lead with under two minutes to play, but was edged by Gustavus Adolphus, 76-73.

After trailing by as many as 11 in the first half, the Storm (1-2) came out of the locker room and put together a 17-5 run to lead 41-34 with 5:23 left in the third quarter. However, the Golden Gusties (2-0) pushed back in front with an 11-0 spurt and led 54-47 going into the final 10 minutes.

Two triples by Molly Lutmer followed by another from Morgan Pietig cut the deficit to one, 62-61, but the home team found an answer once again and scored the next seven. Simpson made one final push and even took a 71-70 lead thanks to six-straight points from Dylan Holland, but the Golden Gusties held on down the stretch for the narrow win.

Anna Wanek had 16 points and six rebounds for Simpson, while Lutmer finished with 12 points and two boards. Cassie Nash chipped in 10 points, four assists and two rebounds.
