INDIANOLA, Iowa – Cassie Nash surpassed 1,000 career points and the Simpson College women's basketball team defeated Luther 70-54 on Saturday in American Rivers Conference action.

Nash officially became the 19th member of Simpson's 1,000-point club with a layup at the 6:50 mark of the fourth quarter. She entered the game needing just 13 points to reach the milestone and easily achieved that with a game-high 20 on 7 of 11 shooting from the floor and 6 of 8 shooting at the line. The senior also set a career-high for blocks (5) and had four steals, four assists and four rebounds.

Simpson (7-7, 2-3 A-R-C) led by just two after 10 minutes but stretched its advantage to 20 at the break with a huge 25-7 second quarter. Luther (9-6, 4-2 A-R-C) connected on a three at 8:42 but was held scoreless from the floor the rest of the half as the Storm defense forced nine turnovers and limited their guests to 1-for-15 shooting in the period.

In the third quarter, Simpson had a scoring drought of its own as Luther cut the lead to 45-37 before the Storm found the bottom of the net for the first time at the 4:02 mark. The Norse ended the quarter with three triples in the final two minutes to pull within six, but Simpson regrouped in the fourth and outscored the visitors 18-8 with the help of 10 points from Nash.

Anna Wanek filled her stat line with 11 points, three steals, three assists and three rebounds, while Molly Lutmer drained three long-range baskets for nine points. Haley Rasmussen and Dylan Holland each contributed eight points and Holland led the squad with 10 rebounds.

Simpson finished the game with 19 steals, the most since tallying 20 on Feb. 19 of last season. The Storm also recorded seven blocks during the contest, which was the team's highest total since Feb. 19, 2019.
