Nash named A-R-C Athlete of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – After leading the Simpson College women's basketball team to a 75-73 win at Luther with a season-high 26 points, senior Cassie Nash has been named American Rivers Conference Female Athlete of the Week and Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
This is Nash's first player of the week recognition for basketball this season and third in her career. She has been recognized five additional times for her performance on the soccer pitch.
Converting 12 of 17 field goal attempts, Nash finished with 26 points to notch her fifth game of the season with 20+ points. She scored 14 points in the third quarter alone and set up the game-winning basket by drawing a triple team under the hoop which left Anna Wanek open in the corner to hit the go-ahead three with 5.3 seconds left.
Along with her scoring, Nash dished out four assists and tallied five steals on defense. She now has 11 games this season with at least four assists and 10 with at least four steals, achieving both feats in five contests.
Nash currently leads the team with 13.9 points per game and tops the conference with 4.3 assists and 3.7 steals per game. Her 56.2 field goal percentage ranks 15th in Division III, while her steals per game ranks 12th.
Simpson (11-10, 6-6 A-R-C) currently sits in sixth place in the A-R-C with four regular season games remaining. The Storm will host last-place Buena Vista on Wednesday before going back on the road to take on Dubuque, which currently holds the No. 4 spot in league standings.
