Storm can’t slow hot-shooting Duhawks

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Cassie Nash scored 20 points but the Simpson College women's basketball team couldn't get past a hot-shooting Loras team on Wednesday, falling 85-60.

The Duhawks shot 71.4 percent in the first quarter and 55.6 percent in the second on their way to a 46-28 halftime advantage. Loras cooled off out of the break and Simpson outscored the hosts 16-14 in the third stanza, but the Duhawks went 9-for-15 from the floor and 5-for-6 at the line in the final 10 minutes to sweep the season series for the first time since the 2019-20 season.

Loras (15-4, 8-2 A-R-C) finished the game with a 56.7 percent shooting clip, while Simpson (10-9, 5-5 A-R-C) was held to 37.0 percent shooting. The Storm were contained to nine points behind the arc but made 17 of 23 attempts at the free throw line.

Nash notched her fourth 20-point performance of the season by going 7-for-10 from the floor and 4-for-5 at the stripe. She also led the team with five rebounds, four steals and two assists.

The Duhawks had four players reach double figure scoring led by Sami Martin with 14 (7-8 FG).
