Storm can’t slow Wartburg offense

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Simpson College softball team was unable to slow Wartburg in a pair of run-rule losses on the road on Sunday.

The league-leading Knights (22-10, 9-5) won the first game 11-2 in six innings before beating the Storm 12-4 in five innings to cap the weekend.

Game 1: Wartburg 11, Simpson 2 (6 innings)
The Storm (19-16, 4-10 A-R-C) fell behind early as Wartburg jumped out to a 7-1 lead with the help of two solo shots in the first and a three-run homer in the second. Karlie Hill and Maxie Saceda-Hurt hit home runs in back-to-back innings for the Storm, but the Knights didn't let up and widened the gap with two in the fourth and sixth.

Game 2: Wartburg 12, Simpson 4 (5 innings)
The Knights' high-powered offense continued into the second game. The home team scratched the scoreboard in the first and added seven runs on five hits and two errors in the second for an 8-0 advantage.

Simpson managed to hold Wartburg scoreless in the third and trimmed the lead to 8-3 with an RBI-double off the bat of Maddie Luderman. The Knights responded with a two-run inning of their own in the fourth and initiated another run-rule victory on a sacrifice in the fifth.
