Barrick-Wessels tabbed A-R-C Pitcher of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Simpson College softball team has now had two athletes recognized with American Rivers Conference weekly awards this season as Taryan Barrick-Wessels was tabbed Pitcher of the Week following two dominating performances in the circle this weekend.

In a pair of complete game victories, Barrick-Wessels did not allow an earned run and gave up just three hits and three walks. On Saturday, Barrick-Wessels tossed Simpson's first one-hitter since March 8, 2018 and was just a home run away from hitting for the cycle. Barrick-Wessels earned the starting nod again on Sunday and surrendered just two hits and two walks in a 4-1 win over Monmouth (Ill.). Overall, she recorded 13 strikeouts with seven against the Panthers and six against the Fighting Scots.

Barrick-Wessels' efforts helped Simpson climb to a 15-6 record ahead of the conference season which begins on Thursday afternoon at Central. The Ackley, Iowa native is 8-2 on the season with a 0.55 ERA, which ranks third in the league and 11th in NCAA Division III. She leads the A-R-C with seven complete game wins and ranks second in strikeouts (59) behind Loras' Ashlyn Helm who paces DIII with 128.
