Crockett reaches milestone in sweep of Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Megan Crockett surpassed 100 hits in her collegiate career, Taryan Barrick-Wessels continued her dominance in the circle, and the Simpson College softball team swept Monmouth 4-1 and 7-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Storm head into their conference season on Thursday with a 15-6 record. Simpson has outscored opponents 126-62 through 21 games.

Game 1: Simpson 4, Monmouth 1
Crockett's 100th hit in Storm uniform tied the game at 1-1 before Alexis Ehlers brought in the next two runs on a groundout in the third and a double in the fifth, the freshman's second two-bagger of the game. Crockett put the icing on the cake with a solo home run to dead center in the seventh.

The Storm found themselves in trouble early after a trio of errors put the Fighting Scots (1-14) on the scoreboard first, but Barrick-Wessels (8-2) limited the damage to one and retired 11-straight batters before surrendering her first hit in the fifth inning. She only allowed one more after that, finishing the day with six strikeouts and no earned runs in a complete game victory.

Game 2: Simpson 7, Monmouth 1
Much like the opener, the Fighting Scots were the first to score following another pair of miscues by the Simpson infield. The Storm didn't take long to respond though as they recorded four runs on two hits and two Monmouth errors in the third. Olivia Allen and Karlie Hill both scored on sacrifice flies, while pinch runner Caroline Pellett returned to the dugout on a wild pitch and Kate Kriegel scored on Crockett's fourth hit of the day.

The Storm put up another crooked number in the final inning to set the final margin at six runs. Kriegel reached on an error and scored her second run of the game on a base hit from Maddie Luderman and Ehlers added to her RBI total with a two-run double.

Brooke Tucker (4-3) earned the victory, scattering four hits while striking out seven and walking one. Randie Richmond entered in the seventh and retired the side in order.
