Simpson takes one of two against Nebraska Wesleyan

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – The Simpson College softball team earned a split courtesy of a 2-1 win in the second game of its American Rivers Conference doubleheader with Nebraska Wesleyan. The Prairie Wolves won the first game 5-3.

The games, which were rescheduled twice to avoid inclement weather, were played at Dowling Catholic High School due to unplayable field conditions at Simpson Softball Complex.

Game 1: Nebraska Wesleyan 5, Simpson 3
Kate Kriegel doubled in a run to give the Storm a quick 1-0 lead before the Prairie Wolves (17-10, 5-5 A-R-C) tallied a run in the second, third and fifth innings for a two-run advantage.

The Storm (19-14, 4-8 A-R-C) tied the game in their half of the fifth with an RBI-double from Taryan Barrick-Wessels and sacrifice fly from Maxie Saceda-Hurt, but Nebraska Wesleyan responded with a home run in the sixth and grabbed another insurance tally in the seventh to put an end to Simpson's seven-game win streak in the series.

Kriegel and Barrick-Wessels were both 2-for-3 to lead the Storm, while Liv Erickson was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Game 2: Simpson 2, Nebraska Wesleyan 1
Simpson cashed in on a leadoff single from Megan Crockett in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead over the visitors. After three scoreless innings, Crockett scored again on an RBI-single from Summer Pasutti to make the score 2-0.

The Prairie Wolves spoiled Brooke Tucker's plans of a second-straight shutout with a run in the seventh, but the Indianola, Iowa product avoided any further damage with her eighth strikeout of the game against the next batter. She allowed six hits and walked one in the complete-game victory.
