Softball tallies 10th win of spring break trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Simpson College softball team picked up the 10th win of its spring break trip with an 8-3 victory over Curry on Saturday. The Storm fell 3-0 to Washington and Jefferson in their first game of the day.

Simpson departs Florida with a 12-5 overall record and has four more non-conference games before facing Central in the American Rivers Conference opener on March 31. The Storm are scheduled to face Greenville and Monmouth in Illinois next weekend, March 26-27.

Game 1: Washington and Jefferson 3, Simpson 0
The Storm were limited to just two hits and five baserunners in the game. With two outs in the top of the fourth, the Presidents (1-0) capitalized on a two-run homer off the bat of Mackenzie Boyd. Washington and Jefferson added another run early in the sixth when Savannah Keough tripled and scored on a wild pitch.

Karlie Hill and Megan Crockett registered the Storm's only hits in the bottom of the sixth inning, but both were left stranded.

Game 2: Simpson 8, Curry 3
The Storm turned a one-run deficit into a three-run lead in the top of the fifth inning. Crockett started the scoring with a triple down the right field line and Simpson added three more thanks to an error, a single from Alexis Ehlers and a sacrifice fly from Olivia Allen

The Colonels (2-7) got one run back in the home half, but Simpson put the game away with three runs in the final two innings. Brooke Tucker retired the last six batters in order en route to her first save of the season, while Taryan Barrick-Wessels earned her sixth win in the circle. The duo combined for 10 strikeouts while allowing just one earned run on four hits.
