Storm softball duo lead all-conference selections

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Senior outfielder Megan Crockett and junior utility player Randie Richmond earn first-team honors on the 2021 All-American Rivers Conference Softball Team to highlight four all-conference selections for Simpson College, the league announced Wednesday.

Senior outfielder Camrey Leo landed on the second team and freshman first baseman Karlie Hill earned honorable mention recognition to join Crockett and Richmond on the all-conference ballot.

Simpson ended the season with a 16-18 record and went 13-11 in A-R-C play to receive the fifth seed in the conference tournament. The squad won eight of its last 10 contests to close the regular season, highlighted by a three-game sweep of Dubuque.

As a unit, the Storm ended second in the league in batting average (.322) and slugging percentage (.483), and fourth in doubles (65) and home runs (29).

Megan Crockett, first team
A native of Bryant, Iowa, Crockett is now a two-time first-team honoree for Simpson. She batted .396 for the season to finish fifth in the conference. Against A-R-C foes, Crockett clubbed .418 to tie for first. She slugged .701 during league play for the fourth-best mark. Crockett had a 10-game hitting streak during the season, with 18 hits during the span. In the 29 games she appeared in, she registered 13 multi-hit performances. Crockett drove in 24 runners with 38 hits, seven doubles and six homers.

Randie Richmond, first team
A native of Blakesburg, Iowa, Richmond excelled inside the circle, on defense and at the plate during the season. The first-team honor goes along with two A-R-C weekly awards she earned as a pitcher and as a position player this season. She led the team in hits (43), runs scored (32), doubles (12) and stolen bases (6) to finish top 10 in the league in all four of those categories. On the rubber, Richmond tied for first on the team with four victories to go along with 19 strikeouts in 37.1 innings of work.

Camrey Leo, second team
A native of Altoona, Iowa, Leo recorded a .356 batting average to go along with 37 hits, seven doubles, three home runs and two doubles. At one point during the season, she had a 14-game hitting streak. Leo tallied two home runs in a game against Central on April 14. While roaming the outfield, Leo had 53 putouts and two assists.

Karlie Hill, honorable mention
A native of Ames, Iowa, Hill batted .375 with 24 hits after entering the starting lineup 10 games into the season. She belted four doubles and three home runs to drive in 16 runners, while scoring six times. Against league opponents, she held a .400 batting clip for sixth best. On defense, Hill recorded 100 putouts with four assists in 106 chances at first.
