Richmond named A-R-C Pitcher of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Simpson College softball player Randie Richmond earned American Rivers Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, March 21, the league office announced Monday.

A junior from Blakesburg, Iowa, Richmond went 2-0 in the circle in Simpson's three-game sweep of Buena Vista on March 20-21. She didn't allow an earned run in 11 innings of work and struck out six batters. Richmond held Buena Vista to a .154 batting average after the Beavers came into the weekend hitting .348 as a team.

Richmond and fellow pitchers Emily Bell and Taryan Barrick-Wessels posted a combined 0.43 ERA in the three-game series.

Richmond started game two of Saturday's doubleheader, tossing a complete-game, four-hitter in a 7-1 Simpson win. She came on in relief in the series finale, holding Buena Vista to two hits over the final four innings in a 6-2 Storm victory.

The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first of Richmond's career.
