Storm sweep Dubuque behind Bell’s performance

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Simpson College softball team repeated its theme of pitchers delivering on offense once again in a 3-1 triumph at Dubuque to sweep the season series on Saturday.

A day after a tandem of Storm (16-16, 13-11 A-R-C) pitchers drove in a pair of runs, Emily Bell helped herself with two RBIs to pace the squad to close out the regular season.

Bell was cruising through the first three frames by allowing just one hit and three baserunners overall. With two out and the bases load, Bell decided to help herself with a two-run single in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead over the Spartans (22-17, 10-14 A-R-C).

Simpson added another run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Sara Trent. Dubuque held a late rally by scoring a run in the last inning, but could not do any further damage to fall.

Bell earned her third win of the season in a complete-game effort. She tallied two strikeouts and allowed six hits.

Camrey Leo recorded three of the team's nine hits from her leadoff spot and scored once. Liv Erickson added three hits for her fourth multi-hit game of the season and third in a row.
