Luderman showcases power in series finale against Coe

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Maddie Luderman put on a hitting clinic with two home runs, including a grand slam, to pace the Simpson College softball offense in a 16-10 defeat against Coe on Monday.

In the last two contests, Luderman has doubled her home run total to six during her sophomore campaign. She finished with six RBIs in the series finale against the Kohawks (3-6, 8-3 A-R-C).

Megan Crockett tallied four hits with a double to tie her career best for the Storm (7-11, 5-7 A-R-C). Crockett had eight knocks in the series against Coe and has hit safely in six straight.

Coe plated 10 runs in the first two innings to grab a large lead inside the Simpson Softball Complex. An eight-run second was powered by seven hits and two miscues by the Storm defense.

Luderman showcased her power in the bottom of the frame to chip away at the deficit with a two-run blast. In the third, Crockett drove in Camrey Leo before Luderman cleared the bases with a bomb to bring the contest to 10-7.

The Kohawk's Natalie Blank put a stop to the momentum in the top of the fourth with a three-run homer. Sara Trent decided to lift one over the fence in the bottom half of the frame for her fourth of the season. The homer scored Brynna Bowman.

With the game set at 13-10 going into the fifth, Simpson would tally just two hits the rest of the contest to stall the comeback bid. Coe would extend its lead with three runs in the seventh, coming off a Skyler Stookey home run and a single by Chloe Severson.

The Storm finished the three-game series with 29 hits, six home runs and three doubles, while the visitors totaled 41 hits, seven doubles and four long balls to sweep Simpson.
