Storm quartet blast homers to clinch series at Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Simpson College softball showcased its strength by belting four home runs to capture a 9-1 victory over Loras and win its second American Rivers Conference series of the season on Monday.

Megan Crockett, Camrey Leo, Maddie Luderman and Taylor Stamm all homered, and Taryan Barrick-Wessels allowed one hit in four innings of work inside the circle to help the Storm (7-8, 5-4 A-R-C) take two of three against the Duhawks (1-12, 1-8 A-R-C).

The offense exploded for 10 hits in the win for its third-straight outing with 10 base knocks to hit .337 in the series against Loras. This is the first time since March 8-9, 2018 Simpson has had double-digit hit efforts in three-straight games.

After a quiet first inning by both squads, Crockett hammered her third homer of the season in the top of the second for the early 1-0. Luderman followed with a two-out blast in the third before Stamm sent hers sailing over the outfield wall in the fourth to push the tilt to 3-0.

Olivia Allen drew a walk and Randie Richmond singled through the left side of the infield to keep the momentum going in the fourth. Sara Trent stepped up to the dish and delivered a two-run single to left field to make it a 5-0 game. A few batters later, Leo cleared the bases with a three-run shot for her first round-tripper of the year.

Stamm tallied her second RBI of the contest in the fifth on a single that scored Corina Covington. Covington was called in to pinch run for Karlie Hill, who recorded a double to lead off the frame.

Leo ended with three hits and Stamm had two to pace the offense.

Barrick-Wessels allowed her fewest hits in a start this season while tying a season-high five strikeouts for her second triumph. Carlyn Stanley made her first appearance inside the circle since Feb. 28 to follow Barrick-Wessels in relief.
