Storm drop rubber match to Central

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College softball team tallied 40 hits over a three-game series with Central, but dropped a 13-5 game on Thursday in the rubber match.

A trio of Storm (8-13, 6-9 A-R-C) recorded two hits in the contest as the offense finished with 11. Sara Trent, Camrey Leo and Megan Crockett all had two base knocks. Crockett has now hit safely in nine-straight contests.

The visitors struck early by plating five runs on four hits in the top of the first. The Dutch (8-6, 6-4 A-R-C) tallied nine of their 26 runs in the first inning during the series.

Crockett drove in her team-leading 20th RBI in the bottom of the first to place the game at 5-1. Central returned with a run in the second and two in the third to extend its advantage to 8-1.

Simpson put together a rally in the third after Leo and Crockett had back-to-back hits. Karlie Hill was able to lift a ball into the outfield for the sacrifice fly before Taryan Barrick-Wessels drove in Crockett on a single.

Brooke Tucker worked two quiet innings over the fourth and fifth to keep the Dutch off the board while earning one hit during that span. Tucker was rewarded with a pair of runs in the fifth after Randie Richmond belted her first-career home run for the Storm to cut the lead to 8-5.

In the sixth, Central had 11 players record an at-bat while scoring five runs on four hits to widen the gap to 13-5. Morgan Schaben worked a one-two-three sixth to enforce the run rule.
