Storm take down Duhawks on Senior Day

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson College men's basketball team ended the home season with a bang, defeating Loras by a score of 79-70 on Senior Day.

Before the game, Andrew Curran, Easton Darling, Andrew Gibb, Austin Murrow, Matt Schubert, and Lincoln Swanson were honored on Senior Day for their contributions to the program.

In a fiery and physical game, the Storm (9-15, 3-12 A-R-C) never trailed, leading for over 38 minutes. The Duhawks (19-4, 10-4 A-R-C) were receiving votes in the latest national poll, but Simpson was only one of two teams to hold the Duhawks to 70 points or below this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Storm started brightly just like the first matchup on Monday, going up 19-10 before the halfway mark of the first half.
  • Loras slowly creeped back, but the Storm responded by holding the Duhawks scoreless over a five-minute period to lead by as many as 11.
  • However, Loras hit two 3-pointers in the final 90 seconds to cut the lead to seven, 34-27, at halftime.
  • The Duhawks got within four early in the second half, but that is close as they came. Leading 47-40, Simpson rattled off a 10-3 run to take its largest lead of the game, 57-43.
  • The Storm had an answer for every Duhawks make and were clutch at the free throw line to close the game out, with Jack Hutchinson making all 10 of his attempts en route to a team-high 21 points.

  • Hutchinson joins Gibb as the only players to make at least 10 free throws in a game this season.
  • Gibb also continues his streak of scoring in double figures in every game this season.
  • The Storm won the rebounding battle, 44-37, the first time the team has grabbed over 40 rebounds in a conference game this season.
  • Darling also recorded the first double-double of his career, grabbing a career-high 10 rebounds in the process.
